Using a Magnetic Clasp

Magnetic Clasp

Those suffering from arthritis, loss of dexterity, long fingernails and/or poor vision can have a very difficult time securing a necklace around their neck. But magnetic clasps have made the task of putting on jewelry much easier. Magnetic clasps attach to each end of your necklace, making fumbling with hooks behind your neck a thing of the past. Simply attach the magnetic clasps to your favorite necklace, wrap it around your neck and the magnetic clasps will do the rest.

Step 1

Choose a magnetic clasp that compliments your necklace. For instance, if your necklace is gold, purchase a gold-toned magnetic clasp. Magnetic clasps are generally sold in either gold- or silver-toned metal.

Step 2

Attach the lobster claw end of the magnetic clasp to the closed hook on your necklace. Each magnet clasp has a closed circular hook on one end and a lobster claw hook on the other, just like a necklace. For this first step, concentrate on the lobster claw end of the magnetic clasp.

Step 3

Join the closed circular hook of the magnetic clasp to the lobster claw hook of the necklace. You will be attaching the magnetic clasp just like you did in the above step, but in reverse: the lobster claw hook of the necklace is being joined with the closed circular hook of the magnetic clasp.

Step 4

Rotate the end of each magnet to lock them in place. After the two magnets have joined behind your neck to secure your necklace, give each a quick spin to lock them into place. Run your fingers over each magnet barrel and rotate them (in opposite directions) half of a spin.
